Terry Prysiazniuk

It is with the greatest of sadness we announce the passing of Taras (Terry) Prysiazniuk on February 29, 2020, at the Nanaimo Regional Hospital where he was surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys Prysiazniuk (Yee), of 62 years, and his daughters Brenda Hanrahan (Joe) of Campbell River, and Nancy Phillips (Wendell) of Vancouver. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Jean, his brothers Peter and Russell, and his sisters Celia and Margaret. He is survived by his siblings Shirley, Nettie, Hellar (Shirley), Vicky, and Jeanette (Ricky). He is also survived by Gladys' brother, Ken (Janice).
Terry was born on a farm near Pine River Manitoba on February 23, 1931. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Brandon College (1952), and both a Bachelor of Arts (1952) and a Bachelor of Social Work (1956) from the University of Manitoba. In 1969 he obtained a Masters of Social Work from the University of Calgary. He worked throughout his career in British Columbia as a government administrator in the social work field. From 1978 to 1985, he was the Executive Director of Tranquille Institution in Kamloops.
In 1985, Terry and Gladys moved to Nanaimo where he worked as the Regional Director for the Ministry of Social Services and Housing. He retired in 1990 and he and Gladys continued to reside in their Nanaimo home until his passing. He and Gladys enjoyed extensive travel in their retirement.
Terry was an optimistic person who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Terry was an avid gardener and fisher. He was an active member of the Nanaimo Wine Makers club and enjoyed tremendous success as an amateur winemaker. He had a custom guitar built to enjoy his love of classical guitar playing. He also volunteered with the Nanaimo Crisis Centre and Brechin United Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, 2174 Departure Bay Road, Nanaimo at 2:00 pm on Saturday March 14, 2020. Terry would smile if those unable to attend would raise a glass of wine in his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
