Susan Mary Jones (Clibbett)

June 18, 1945 ~ March 11, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Susan Jones, on March 11, 2011.

Susan was born in Surrey, England and emigrated to Canada at the age of six. She settled in Nanaimo and raised six children. She is survived by her children, her six grandchildren and sister-in-law, Wendy Clibbett.

Susan can most aptly be described as a woman of great talent and passion. After her children were grown, she returned to school and obtained her Bachelors Degree to build up on her lifelong passion for history and archeology. She attended an archeological field school in Egypt which only served to solidify her love of the ancients. Indeed, she would be happiest toiling in the desert, uncovering the secrets of the Pharaoh.

After graduation and successful completion of a post-degree program, in Cultural Resource Management, Susan began work with the Ladysmith Historical Society. She was passionate about her work with the Society and was devoted to research and the preservation of the town’s history.

Susan had a strong spirit which was clear from the many adventures. Whether it be her first equine three-day event at the age of fifty, riding high on an elephant in India, digging for bones in the deserts of Egypt or sailing the Gulf Islands, she rarely put limits on herself. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

All are welcome to the ceremony at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a tea at 1858 Kirkstone Way in Cedar.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cowichan Regional Hospital for the outstanding care, compassion and kindness they showed for our mother.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Ladysmith Historical Society in Susan’s, name would be gratefully accepted.
