STANLEY GEORGE HAWKES

December 29, 1923 - October 11, 2014

Peacefully after a short illness Stanley George Hawkes passed away three months short of his 91st birthday. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Doreen (Laird), his two daughters Patty Anne (Jim) and Janice (Lyle), his brother Gordon (Neva), Grandchildren Robyn and Brian (Nichole) and nephews Paul and David.

Stan dedicated 25 years mentoring young minds with RCSCC Amphion Sea Cadets Corp and was a life member of Branch 256 Legion and an Honorary member of Branch 10 Legion.

Stan was a founding member of the Nanaimo Naval Association and was often seen volunteering his time at the Blood Donor Clinics. For many years on Remembrance Day Stan was an invited speaker at schools and often interviewed by the media on his personal experiences during the war.

There will be a service at Branch #256 Legion, 1630 East Wellington Road on Friday October 17 from 2–4 P.M.
