It is with very heavy hearts we announce that on Thursday, November 13, 2014, Ruth Ellen Johnston, mother and best friend passed away at home with family at her side after a brief battle with cancer.
Ruth is predeceased by her husband Earle Mervyn Johnston and is survived by daughters Sandra (Edward), Beverley (Les), Anne, Doreen (Bill) and Tammy, 13 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Ruth was born and raised in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and moved to Nanaimo in 1974.
She will always be remembered for her great sense of humour.
A very special thank you to all the staff at NRGH Palliative Care Unit, who without your support, we would not have been able to bring Mom home and care for her and also, a special thank you to the nurses on the 6th floor.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH would be greatly appreciated by her family.
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you
And whispered “Come to me”
With tearful eyes we watched you
As you slowly slipped away
And though we loved you dearly
We couldn’t make you stay
Your golden heart stopped beating
Your tired hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best
Miss you Mom
