RUBY MAXINE OSTERCAMP
(neé Chalmers)
passed away peacefully after a lengthy struggle with cancer on April 4, 2014. Mom was born in Dodsland Saskatchewan on September 5, 1924. She was predeceased by her husband [Clarence] of 50 years in 1992. Mom will be remembered by her six children, her eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and her seven brothers and sisters.
Mom went to school at Hopedale School near Kindersely, Saskatchewan. She married Clarence Ostercamp in November, 1942. They lived in Edmonton until the end of the second world war when they moved to a farm in the Eckville/Sylvan Lake area of Central Alberta. Five of their six children were born while the family lived on this farm. In 1962 there was a brief move to a farm in the Ponoka area of Central Alberta. This was the birth place of Mom’s youngest daughter and sixth child. Again in 1965, another move took place back to a farm in the Eckville area. Mom and Dad left the farm in 1970 and moved to Red Deer. While in Red Deer Mom commenced working away from the home and was employed with Grey Hound Bus and later with Electrolux Canada. In 1973 they relocated to Taber, Alberta. While in living in Taber Mom worked for the Robinson Little Retail Store, the Heritage Hotel and for a lengthy period as an Office Manager for a local Plumbing and Heating outlet. Mom worked full time until she was 68 years of age. Following the death of her husband she moved to Calgary in the spring of 1993 and commenced full time retirement. She resided in Calgary until 2007 when she relocated to Nanaimo, BC to be in proximity to other family members. Mom resided in Nanaimo until her passing.
The family wish to truly thank the staff at Kiwanis Village Lodge for the outstanding care and support Mom received throughout the four years she resided there, up to and including her last final days. Also a sincere thank you and appreciation goes out to Dr Mary Winder who provided Mom outstanding medical care and comfort throughout the last several months of her life. Mom truly enjoyed and valued the lifestyle she had at Kiwanis Village Lodge and deeply valued and appreciated the excellent friendships she made amongst her fellow residents, staff and volunteers while living there.
