MOVOLD,

Ronald Malcolm

October 29, 1957 – March 20, 2014

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle. Ron, who was born in Powell River and grew up on Texada Island, was a devoted family man and dedicated worker. Following the completion of his electrical ticket, he spent his life working on mining projects around the world in BC, China, Indonesia and Peru.

While in China, Ron met his wife, Minda. A friendship blossomed into romance and soon Ron, and his new “instant family”, were headed off to Indonesia with the mining company Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc. Minda, Ron, Antonio and Rachel spent several happy years in Southeast Asia, exploring Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and more. The family returned to Canada to settle in Nanaimo close to Ron’s parents in 2000. Following his return to Canada, Ron worked north at Kemess mine site for a number of years until completion. He then began a project, again with Freeport McMoRan, which would have moved him and Minda to Peru in June. Ron’s best friends were his siblings; he often connected with them in person and online, sharing love and laughter. He made friends all over the world and has kept in contact with many over the years. He loved riding his motorcycle, spending time with his dog Gracie and cats Kitty and Belle, and woodworking.

Ron is survived by his wife, Minda (nee Jaballa); and children Antonio and Rachel; his parents, Albert and Anita Movold; sisters, Cindy (Steve) Macdonald and Michelle (Larry) Campbell; brothers, Craig (Diana) and Mark (Margaret); nieces and nephews: Hannah, Liam, Luke, Anna, David, Rozanna, Crystal, and Kevin.

There will be a service, to celebrate Ron’s life, at the Trinity Catholic Church, 6234 Spartan Road, Nanaimo, B.C. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
