RAGNAR FOLKE HOLMQUIST

December 31, 2009

Ragnar Folke Holmquist

Much loved husband, father, papa, brother and friend passed away on December 31, 2009 at the age of 77 years, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s. Predeceased by sister Thora; brothers: Ernest and Ben, and sister-in-law Eileen Gilmour.

Survived by loving wife Eleanor; son Randy (Gillian) and granddaughter Pearl; brothers: Peter (Doris) Arnold (Fay), Elmer (Maureen); sisters: Dora and Sandra; sisters-in-law: Agnes and Joan; many nieces and nephews.

Ragnar was born in Kinistino, Saskatchewan June 20, 1932 and worked on the farm before moving to Nanaimo and starting his carpentry apprenticeship in 1952. Working on many buildings in the Nanaimo area, Travellers Lodge, Woodlands School, Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and many others before starting his own cabinet shop.

The family spent many happy times travelling from coast to coast with the 5th wheel he built with son Randy. He was always happiest in his workshop. His fine cabinets and circular stairways are legendary. A loving, kind and gentle man he will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Special thanks to Dr. Reems and the nurses and staff on 5th floor for their kind and compassionate care.

There will be no service at Ragnar’s request. In lieu of flowers donations to Parkinson’s Society, 800-890 West Pender, Vancouver, B.C., V6C 1J9 would be appreciated.
