Komen, Michael Johannes

November 1, 1970 - July 4, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Komen. He passed away in the palliative care unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Michael will be greatly missed by his wife, Corina; his daughter, Amanda; and son, Kees; his parents, Piet and Nelly Komen; brother, Pierre (Kyla); in-laws, Ed and Joan Pile; brother-in-law, Wade Pile (Leah); sister-in-law, Kelly Pile; and all his nieces, nephews and extended family in Holland.

Mike was born and raised in Nanaimo and married his high school sweetheart. Together they raised their children and built their construction company. He loved his family, had a great passion for hockey and golf and loved coaching his son’s hockey team. All of his friends, hockey buddies and poker players will surely miss him.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Palliative Care unit who took exceptional care of him; the team at the BC Cancer Society in Victoria; the surgeons who tried everything and mostly Dr. Beerman for everything he did for us.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the BC Cancer Society.

There is a Celebration of Life at the family home, 2750 Shady Mile Way on Saturday, July 13th from 2 – 5 pm.
