Our amazing Mom passed away on May 4. We feel blessed to have celebrated her 100th birthday party with her in Vegas. Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Stewart Alexander Atkinson (in 1972), her parents, Rachel and James McGowan, her two sisters (Marguerite Thompson and Agnes Morelli) and her four brothers (Ronald, Gordon, George, and Douglas).
Mom is survived by her four children (two sets of twins) - Lynne (Neil) McFaul, Joan (David) Thien, Gordon (Leona) Atkinson and Gail Thomas. She also leaves her 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, as well as four nieces and four nephews. Also left to mourn Mom are dearest friends (more like family) Cam and Ralph Torney.
She married in 1940 and she and Dad moved to Nanaimo in 1948 where she stayed until moving to Victoria in 1996, Mom was an intelligent, loving and fun person who kept her sense of humour right until the end. Mom had a 25 year career at Nanaimo Realty legal department and had many lifelong friends through that work connection. Special thanks to staff of Rose Manor and her many friends there, and to nursing staff and House Doctors at 8th Floor, Patient Care Centre, Royal Jubilee Hospital. RIP our dear mom.
Celebration of life will be Sunday, May 20th, Coast Harbourside Hotel, at 1:00 pm.
