In loving memory ~
Lia was born and raised in a small country, The Island of Mauritius with her parents, sister and three brothers. She immigrated to Canada in 1980 and became a Canadian citizen shortly thereafter, eventually moving to Nanaimo in 1992. Lia was a hairdresser and owned Lia's Hair Care in Lantzville for many years and this is where she met her husband John Stasiuk. They were happily married for 27 years.
Lia is survived by her husband John, her daughter Crystel and son Alex of Nanaimo, her grandchildren Maurice and Arieana of Hawaii, her stepson David (Chelsea), their children Iyla, Benjamin and stepson Joseph. She was pre-deceased by her stepson Jonathan, and her parents Louis Leonard and Marie Bernadette.
Later in Lia's life at the age of 55 she decided to run marathons. She ran many including the Boston Marathon in 2012. Lia, a classy lady who was a phenomenal cook, a marathon runner, avid boater, had a love of nature and the ocean, adored her dogs Maggie and Cheeky, and enjoyed her time in Mexico at the beach house and later in Ajijic. Lia was a graceful and loving woman and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at The Nanaimo Golf Club in the Macan Banquet Hall from 1 pm - 4 pm. Please RSVP to lillypad12_99@yahoo.com or wandajonsen@hotmail.com
