March 2, 1950 – January 7, 2021
On January 7th Marianne’s pain and suffering came to an end as she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She is predeceased by her father Kurt Taube, her mother Ingeborg Taube, her step mother Edith Taube, her brother Klaus Taube, and grandsons Tyler, Aidan, and Keegan.
Marianne will be greatly missed by Jim, her husband of 46 years, Kevin (Alison), Maureen (Rick), Stefanie (Chris) and her grandchildren Warren, Meeghan, Kolton, Erika, Talia and Morgan.
Marianne was born in Eckernfoerde Germany in 1950 and her family immigrated to Canada in 1962, settling in Tomslake, BC where she spent her childhood on their family dairy farm. She went on to University at UBC, where she met Jim.
Upon completion of her degree, they were married and moved to Nanaimo to start their life together. They became involved in the family florist business and she was able to work in a field she was passionate about. In 2018, after 43 year in the industry, Jim and Marianne sold their business and retired.
Marianne was an exceptional friend, wife and mother, but her love and dedication to her grandchildren was unparalleled. She dreamed of enjoying her retirement with her grandchildren and spending even more of her time in the Nanaimo arts and culture community that she had supported for so many years through her volunteer efforts.
Unfortunately, that was not to be and her retirement dreams were cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer in mid 2019, after suffering much pain for 8 months prior to her diagnosis.
The family has set up two memorial funds to honor Marianne’s life. Donations can be made to the Vancouver Island Symphony Foundation: Marianne Turley Memorial Fund and the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation in Marianne’s memory to be directed to the Nanaimo cancer clinic expansion.
Marianne lived her life with determination, kindness and love and any who were lucky enough to have known her can attest to this.
She was the center of our family and will always be missed.
