In Loving Memory (1933-2024) ~

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Margaret was pre-deceased by her daughter Patricia and husband Clifford.

Margaret is survived by four of her children: Ted (Eleanor), Rose (John), Sean (Vicki), and Sharon (Connie); three grandchildren: Raymond (Grace), Colleen (Paul), and Robbie; and six great-grandchildren: Kody, Alishia, Felicia, Callum, Lydia and Brooklyn. She is also survived by numerous relatives and friends in Scotland and Canada.

Born in Glasgow Scotland, Margaret moved to Canada alone at the tender age of 19 and landed first in Gander, Newfoundland, before arriving in Calgary, by train, in time for her first Calgary Stampede.

While living with Uncle Sam and Aunt Ina she met and married Clifford Smith, the love of her life. Together, they moved around Western Canada for Clifford's work while they raised their family and eventually settled back in Calgary.

In the '70s and '80s, Margaret worked in the Ladies Shoe Department of downtown Eatons, loving the opportunity and becoming a favourite with colleagues and customers alike.

Margaret and Clifford retired to Nanaimo to be near family, where they both enjoyed gardening and their love of animals. The family would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Wentworth Manor.

Margaret will be interred in Nanaimo at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, next to Clifford. A brief ceremony will be held at the cemetery on May 10th. Please check the Leyden's Funeral Home website, Obituaries for updates. In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. SPCA are welcome.
