September 8, 2018
It is with heartfelt sadness I announce the passing of Lynda McNiven, "the love of my life", my best friend and wife of 48 plus years. Lynda passed away peacefully September 8th, 2018 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital at the young age of 69.

Lynda was born in Vanguard, Saskatchewan and after her grade schooling moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta to pursue a career in nursing. As she followed me in my career moves, she worked as a Registered Nurse in Medicine Hat, Moosejaw, Calgary, Red Deer, Vernon and finally at NRGH in Nanaimo.

Lynda's joys in life included her love for dogs, travelling, her home and flower gardens, golfing and above all, for many years, the company of family and friends. To see Lynda, even in the last few years, most friends and family never knew the pain she really suffered, she privately battled many afflictions most notable being Scleroderma and Cancer, a battle that lasted more than ten years. Lynda's bright "light up a room" smile will surely be missed by her many friends, her family and especially by me, her husband.

Lynda was predeceased by both her mother, Muriel Brown and her father, Samuel Schock. Lynda is survived by her husband, Neil McNiven of Nanaimo, her two sisters, Judith (Dennis) Moreton of Medicine Hat, Alberta and Diane (Harold) Hoover of Calgary, Alberta and two brothers, Sydney (Violet) Schock of Medicine Hat and Brian (Charmaine) Schock of Edmonton, Alberta.

A special Thank You to all the doctors, HCA's and especially the nurses of Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria for the loving care they provided to Lynda during her final days.

At Lynda's request there will be no formal funeral service. A small celebration of her life by family and friends will be held at her home on September 21st, 2018 starting at 3 pm to 8 pm. Flowers gratefully declined, Lynda would prefer you make a contribution to your choice of either The Canadian Cancer Society, The Scleroderma Association of British Columbia or your local SPCA.

For family and friends and especially those who are out of town and who are unable to attend the celebration of life this month, there will be an internment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery held on May 16th, 2019 followed by a second gathering to celebrate her life.
