September 1, 1925 - October 16, 2021
I would like to announce the peaceful passing of my beloved mother Lorraine Gertrude Negrin (Dunbar), Sept 1 1925 to Oct 16 2021.
My mother had many roles; daughter, sister, cousin, niece, friend, wife, mother, auntie, grandma and lastly great grandma. She embraced every role with ease. Family was her most valued and prized asset.
My mother grew up on a dairy farm in the Wellington area on the Dunbar property. In the true nature of a farmer's daughter she would walk home with the cows after school. Along with putting warm grain in her gum boots to dry them, she would also place hot bricks in the beds to warm the cold rooms. There were no furnaces during Mom's humble beginnings. She became a very hard worker and adopted the saying "waste not" "want not" everything grown on the farm had its purpose.
On mom's 20th birthday she married my father Benny Negrin. Together they raised three children myself Danny, my brother Donald and my sister Diana all while running a successful Dairy. The remnants of that remain today at the homestead on Lantzville Rd.
Tragedy struck our family not once but twice over the years when we lost my brother Donald and again when we lost my sister Diana. With her faith and love from family and friends my mother carried on. She was a strong and selfless woman. Those who knew my parents knew their kitchen was always a welcoming place with lots of fresh coffee and baked treats. My mother moved from the main farm house to the bungalow next door after losing my father in 2011 after almost 66 years of marriage. She remained fiercely independent not wanting to bother anyone and did not give up her driver's licence until just a few years ago. She was also one of the first women in Nanaimo to get her driver's licence so she could deliver the milk. Never one to complain or judge although she on occasion would still give her motherly opinion in regards to my smoking or pub visits.
We are going to miss you mom more than you know; me, Danny (Natalie) and with my late sister's daughter, Cindy (Kristian), Madison, Olivia, Abigail, my daughter Sharon, Linden, Oliver and my older daughter Kathy (Kevin), Keenan, Keanna, numerous relatives and the entire village of Lantzville .
You and dad were pillars in this community and your legacy will be hard to follow.
In lieu of flowers mom would have been most happy if each of you were to do a small act of kindness towards someone else because that's the kind of person she was.
I will announce a graveside service at a later date.
Get some rest mom. I'm at peace knowing you have now reunited with Dad, Donald and Diana.
Danny xo
