Mackenzie, Lila Madeline

February 4, 1918 - December 12, 2011

Lila died peacefully at Rainbow Gardens, December 12, 2011 with the dignity and grace that marked her life. She was 93. Lila Madeline was born in Alberni, February 4, 1918, to parents Ivy and Jack McKenzie. She was always proud of her pioneer roots which went back to 1884 with the arrival of her grandparents and family from Ontario. Lila married Ken Mackenzie in Port Alberni in 1936 and resided there until retiring to Qualicum Beach. Following Ken’s death in 2001 Lila lived at Berwick on the Lake in Nanaimo but had recently returned to Port Alberni. Lila was a founding member of the Alberni Museum and Historical Society and a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Lila was predeceased by her parents, Ivy and John McKenzie; her loving husband of 65 years, Ken; grandson, Dennis Mackenzie, and brother, Alex McKenzie. She is survived by sons, Larry (Wendy), Jack (Marilyn), and daughter, Maxine Munsil (Bud); grandchildren: Cathy Bernar (Marco), Alison Mackenzie (Brian Hoy), Maureen Mackenzie (Dan Goddard), Kenneth (Ruth) and Kevin (Karla) Mackenzie, Janet Munsil (Paul Terry), Brian Munsil; great grandchildren: Luchia and Portia Bernar, Matthew and Joey Banys, Sarah Ralph, Tanner and Taylor Mackenzie, Lauryn and Jordyn Mackenzie, Bowen and Valen Munsil; sister, Donna Fitch,; brother, Wilfred McKenzie, and sister-in-law Marjorie McKenzie.

Many thanks to the kind and caring staff that looked after her at Berwick on the Lake and Rainbow Gardens.

In accordance with the family’s wishes there will be no service held at this time. A family gathering will be held in the summer to celebrate the McKenzie History in the valley.
