KATHLEEN ROSE (nee Cumming) STRINGFELLOW

KATHLEEN

Born October 29, 1933 in Foam Lake Sask. Passed away May 2, 2010 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with family at her side.

Kathleen moved, with her parents to BC in the early 1940’s; she grew-up in Burnaby and attended Normal School and became a school teacher. In August 1955 she married Matt Stringfellow. Matt and Kay raised four children while living in several communities throughout British Columbia. Kathleen specialized in teaching English as a second language and in the 1970’s primarily taught children who were known as “The Boat People”, refugees from Vietnam.

During the 1980’s Kathleen was a volunteer with the Richmond Hospital Auxiliary, she also enjoyed gardening, painting, watching sports and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Kathleen will be deeply missed by her husband, Matt Stringfellow; her sister Joan O’Hara; her children: Linda Stringfellow (Alan Doll), Mathew Stringfellow (Carol), Thomas Stringfellow (Susan), Patrick Stringfellow (Tricia); her grandchildren: Christopher, Shannon, Sarah (Greg), Andrea (Lyndon),Geoffrey (Megan), Steven (Evelyn), Lindsay, Kevin, Jeremy, Gregory and Robyn; great grandsons: Jared, Kayden, Grayson and Luke, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held May 4th in Nanaimo. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
