IRENE PETERS

February 8, 1913-December 29, 2014

Our much loved mom passed away peacefully at NRGH Monday evening December 29th surrounded by her loving family.

Irene was born February 8, 1913 in Fernie, BC where she grew up, met, and married her beloved husband Gus who sadly passed away in 1986. They had 52 wonderful years together.

Irene moved with her family to Nanaimo in 1956 and after dad and her retired spent many happy years camping with her children and grandchildren.

Ever the caregiver, there was always a pot of tea and a compassionate ear for anyone who needed it. Sometimes even a little drink of blackberry brandy. She was always on hand willingly helping to care for grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Irene was predeceased by 3 brothers and 2 sisters, her son Donald and son-in law Frank.

Irene is survived by a large family; 2 daughters, Shirley and Marilou, daughter-in-law Shirlea; 9 grandchildren, Brenda [Steve]. Karen, Russell, Jo-Anne, Tony, Pam [Paul], Glynis [Tony], Paula [Chris], and Lindy [Joe]; 17 great-grandchildren, Brent [Carla], Christine [Kyle], Zabrina [Dane]. Kaylee, Matthew, Karlee, Camille, Dylan, Alexis, Colton, Jake, Emilia, Clayton, Paige, Taylor, Drew and Breanna. 4 great- great-grandchildren, Audrianna, Chloe, Kaydence and Ryann. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Irene leaves a legacy larger than life, full of determination and hard work. Her unconditional love, kindness and generosity have left an indelible impression on family and friends alike. She will be remembered always for her quiet acceptance of what life brought her. Her sense of humor was legendary. We will always keep her in our hearts.

Mom spent the last 4 years in the caring arms of the wonderful staff of Franklin 2nd floor at Malaspina Gardens.

A family gathering will be held in February to honour this very special lady.

Who ran to help me when I fell,

And would some pretty story tell,

Or kiss the place to make it well?

MY MOTHER
