Ian James Bruce

“Dad - Grandad - Uncle Ian”

August 17, 1913 ~ March 8, 2010

Ian passed away peacefully at home on Monday March 8 at the age of 96. Ian worked at Nanaimo Motors before serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a radar technician during WWII. After the war, he worked at Northwest Bay logging camp as a mechanic until his retirement. He was known to all as “E.E. Fix”, as there was nothing he could not repair. Ian enjoyed spending time at Pipers Lagoon (“The Goon”), Home Lake (“The Porthole”) and Honolulu. You could find him every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon enjoying the meat draw at the 256 Legion, where he sat at the same table for 25 years. He always ensured that he lived every moment of his life to the fullest, right to the end.

Predeceased by his wife Jessie, daughter Annetta, great-grandson Seth, and brothers Colin and Gilbert.

Family was Ian’s pride and joy and he will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Barb (Adrian) Doumont; son-in-law Alan Thornett; grandchildren Bev (Jim) Miller, Bruce Doumont, Ian Thornett, and Darren (Ronda) Thornett; great grandchildren Alec, Andrew, Zachary, Olann, Cody, Kelsey, Eric and Scott; brother David; sister Isla; dear friends Karen, Eileen and Dina; special niece Sandy and many other nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Dr. Ehman, the Nanaimo Home Support workers and nurse Cathy.

In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to the Nanaimo Canadian Red Cross in Ian’s name.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 20, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 256, 1630 East Wellington Road.
