June 25, 1931 - July 11, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ian Hetherington announce his passing, peacefully at home on July 11, 2021. Ian came to Canada from England with his new bride Sheila in 1957 to start a new life. Soon followed four children in five years: Susan, Peter, Brenda and Lynne.
He was predeceased by his wife Sheila (2020), daughter Susan Smith (2002), grandson Steven Cooper (2014), brother Ken, sister-in-law Mavis, and sister-in-law Shirley.
Ian is survived by son Peter (Susan); daughters Lynne Oleksiuk (Reg) and Brenda; Grandchildren: Aaron (Mikaili), Brittany Kupchanko, and Corbin (Payton); Great-grandchildren Tyler, Lauren, Ella, and Jack; Brother Clive, and family.
Our dad was well known around town. First for his battery business which made him many lifetime friendships and secondly for his work with the Emergency Program and Coast Guard Auxiliary for which he received many awards. He was very proud of all of them. He was so proud of the Canadian Forces medallion for distinguished service (highest military service for a civilian) and a letter he received from the Queen congratulating him on his service and asking him if he could come back to England to help out on the water (jokingly).
There will be a joint celebration of life for both Ian and Sheila late September/ early October to be later announced.
