It is with great pride and sadness that we announce the passing of Howard Earle Johnston on January 8, 2018, with his loving wife Delphine by his side.

Born June 14, 1928 in Victoria, B.C., he lived all of his life on Vancouver Island and for the last 70 years in Nanaimo.

Howard was a successful businessman starting and building with Delphine his wife, Johnston Drug Wholesale. Now in to 55 years, the business continues with the family.

Howard was greatly respected by his family, friends and employees. He will be admired for his ability to lead and achieve.

Howard wasn't all about business, he and Delphine had many great years travelling with the Associated Canadian Travellers, Nanaimo Harbour Commission, and friends.

He spent over 20 years boating on the Georgia Strait, Desolation Sound and the Gulf Islands with Delphine and their friends. In the late 1970 they found the California Desert and Palm Springs where they spent nearly every winter season for 30 years. They still have a home in Rancho Mirage.

Predeceased by son Mark and brother Charles, Howard leaves behind his wife Delphine of 69 years, his children Earle (Lindsay), Theresa and Scott (Brenda) 6 grandchildren Brian, Bradley, Breanne, Ashley, Maria and Tyler and 6 great grandchildren Adam, Emerson, Cooper, Ethan, Weston, and Harper.

A service for family and old friends will be held Wednesday January 17, 2018 at 1:30 pm Sands Funeral Chapel and a Celebration of Life Saturday February 3, 2018 at Beefeaters Chop House & Grill 2:00 - 5:00.
