HENDERSON, Hazel Harriet

(Nee Lyckman)

December 9, 1915 ~ April 9, 2013

Our beloved mother, Hazel passed peacefully away at 97 years old at N.R.G.H. She was born to the late Arvid and Amanda Lyckman in Carmangay, Alberta. She was the fifth child of six children. Her parents immigrated from Sweden and settled in Alberta as homesteaders. She was pre-deceased by her husband, James Henderson. She and her husband left Alberta and moved to Nanaimo in 1947 with their two sons, Gary and Ron.

Hazel was a fun loving person who enjoyed square dancing with her husband. She also belonged to a sewing group for fifty years. As a loving wife and mother, she kept a fine household in order and a happy home for the family. She took great pleasure, when from time to time, a stream of family from Alberta would pay them a visit and stay with them.

Hazel is survived by her two brothers, Ray at 99 years old, Stan at 95 years old, and a sister, Gladys at 102 years old. She is also survived by her two sons, Gary with wife Cindy, and Ron. In Nanaimo she has a niece, Carol and her husband Stan Jordan. Most of her nephews and nieces are in Alberta and will also miss her dearly.

Hazel was a resident at Malaspina Gardens for four years before her passing. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Malaspina Gardens and the third floor nurses at NRGH.

There will be no service per request.
