Our beloved mother, nana, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother will be greatly missed by her family. Joining her late husband Ronald Oliver King (1975) and daughter Gwenneth Honor Leach (King) (2002). Gwladys passed away at the Nanaimo Hospital Friday evening after a week of hospitalization, she was proceeded by her siblings Freida, Peggy, Charlie, and Molly. Survived by her son Paul Corrick King (Linda), (Nanaimo) and his children Linda (Ken Curry) and grandsons Daniel and Nicholas Curry (Vancouver), and Janet C.L. King (Brian Carwithen) and grandson William T. King (Carwithen) of (Parksville) and Ronald Jonathan Corrick King (Cheryl) and grandchildren Dorothy, Christy, David and Amanda of (Kelowna, B.C.)

Survived by daughter Gwen’s family are Marjorie Wright (Courtenay) and grandchildren Ian Zimmermann (Ontario) Kerry and John (Vancouver), Daughter Liz Aldridge (Bob) and grandchildren Landon (Cherie) and Erin of (Vancouver), Daughter Janis (Pat) of (Courtenay) Daughter Susan and grandsons Mathew, Adam and Ben of (Revelstoke, B.C).

Gwladys is also survived by her brother Jack Beadnell at Arranglen Lodge formerly of Comox, B.C., a former Fisheries Inspector for Vancouver Island. Gwladys was born in Radnor Wales and grew up in Comox Valley. The daughter of Harry Beadnell and Winnifred Dundas Thwaites. She married Ronald Oliver King of Bristol, England in 1927, and operated the Highcroft Dairy Farm on Salt Spring Island from 1927 to 1942 when they moved to Oak Bay in Victoria, where Ronald worked in the Yarrows Shipyards and the Victoria Post Office, and on retiring worked with the Salvation Army in Victoria. Gwladys ran a nursing home and worked for the Canadian Red Cross in 1950 and 1960 at which time she received the Red Cross Long Service Pin.

After Ronald’s passing in 1975, Paul and his family moved from Saskatchewan to Vancouver Island to be closer to his mother. Paul graduated from the RCMP Depot Div. in 1954 and settled with his wife Pauline (Lypchuk) in the prairie provinces throughout Paul’s 22 year policing career. Daughter Gwen and husband Howard Leach and their daughters resided in Canada, France and Germany with the RCAF. In 1970 Howard retired and moved to Comox with his family. Gwladys moved from Victoria to Comox in 1997, and in 2002 moved to a Nursing Home in Nanaimo, B.C.

Gwladys enjoyed travelling with husband Ronald by air and cruise ships to the Panama, Europe, Hawaii and England. She loved to travel with her father in the Comox area, to meet and talk to Chief Joe Nimmin and his wife and her great uncle George Beadnell of Denman Island (Filongly Park). Gwladys spoke often of friends in Comox such as Marjorie Biscoe.

Your family and friends will miss you and wish you joy in reuniting with beloved husband Ronald, Daughter Gwen and siblings.

In the Spring of 2004 family and friends will meet in Oak Bay by the Cricket field and toast your memory. Grandmother sends her love to all.
