Gladys Louise Grey passed away peacefully Sunday, July 30, 2017, one month ahead of her 90th birthday. Gladys was surrounded by family at the time of her passing, a reflection of how she led her life – with family always close by. Gladys was born near Drayton, Ontario, one of 5 children in the Flewwelling family. She finished high school and married Bernell Rush in 1948. They moved to a farm near Teviotdale, where Richard and Brian were born. In 1956, the family moved “into town” to Palmerston, near Listowel. Gladys worked as the secretary to the principal at Norwell District Secondary School. She visited her sister and best friend, Mildred Cass in Nanaimo in the early 1970s and stayed with her 10 year old son, David,having fallen in love with the Island. Gladys began work at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital as an administrative secretary and began building her many wonderful friendships in her new home. In 1976, Gladys married Bob Grey and began a 23-year marriage centered around love, laughter, and family. Bob passed away in ’99 and Gladys maintained the home at Willows Park among her many friends and neighbours for over a decade. Gladys moved to Lakeside Gardens,then to Dufferin Place when her health declined in 2016.Gladys was always cheerful and thoughtful toward the many visitors, friends and staff at Lakeside and Dufferin. Gladys is survived by her brother John Flewwelling (Noreen), three sons, David Rush (Brenda), Brian Rush (Amanda), and Richard Rush (Linda) and her five step-children, Rob Grey (Melanie), Anita Grey, Jane Grey (Doug), Paul Grey (Imelda), and David Grey (Audette) plus many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom loved Gladys for the smiles, warmth, and love she showed to all who

knew her throughout her life.

Service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road,Nanaimo, BC, at 1pm, Wednesday, August 9th, 2017. Refreshments and light snacks to follow service.
