Frances Amelia

It is with great sadness that Frances’ family announces her passing on May 24, 2013 at the age of 96, in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Frances will be missed and lovingly remembered by sons, Gareth and Donald (Audrey); grandchildren: Craig Gardiner, Quentin Gardiner, James Gardiner, and Frances Gardiner; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James in 1994; son, Theo in 1964; and daughter, Gail in 2005.

Frances was born and raised in Duhamel, Alberta where she met and married James Gardiner who was a school teacher in the area. They lived in Camrose, Edmonton and Bassano before moving to Marwayne, Alberta in 1954, where James had accepted the school principalship. They were active members of that community until they moved to Nanaimo, BC in 1968. While in Nanaimo, Frances spent many years working with the Nanaimo Homemakers Society. She spent many happy years in her condo at Highview Terrace in Nanaimo and travelling with friends and family. The last few years of her life were spent in the Kiwanis Lodge in Nanaimo, where she received excellent care and support. Frances lived a long and courageous life and will be missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service, honoring her life, was held at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Nanaimo on Saturday, June 1, 2013. Donations, in Frances’ name, may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
