Esther May Krastel (Heiduk)
November 15, 1936 ~ September 15, 2015
Our Lord has called home our wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Esther was born in Melville, Saskatchewan, and moved to Nanaimo in 1952 where she married the love of her life, Matthew Krastel, and enjoyed 56 wonderful years raising her five children. She was a remarkable seamstress and an avid gardener; she poured her heart and soul into her creative endeavours and sparked the imagination of those around her. Some of her happiest moments were spent on the beaches of Tofino where she was in awe of the west coast sunsets and stormy waves. Esther’s love for the beauty of nature was second only to the profound love she had for her family. She was a warm and nurturing soul who was always there when you needed her most.
Esther is preceded in her passing by her parents Adolf and Mary Heiduk and her sister Audrey Warwick.
She is survived by her husband Matthew Krastel; sister Eleanor Ziprick; brother Alfred Heiduk; daughters Corrine (Kent) Eccles; Desiree (Ron) Stockhausen; Janet (Tony Cummings) Krastel; twin sons Byron Krastel; Kevin (Brenda) Krastel; nine grandchildren Kristin (Jay) Stewart; Lindsey Eccles; Zachary Krastel; Adam Krastel; Brandon Ashcraft; Nicholas Ashcraft; Jaime Krastel; Matthew Krastel; Tabitha Cummings; and two great grandchildren Ava & Maddox Cummings.

There will be no funeral service – a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Esther will be forever loved and cherished by her family and her memory will live on through them.
