Dorothy Margaret Perry (nee Logie)

May 29, 1926 to October 18, 2014

We are saddened to announce the passing of our Mum, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister, Sister-in-Law, Aunt and friend on Saturday October 18, 2014. Mum was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1995. She leaves an extended family and circle of friends who will remember her as a loving, purposeful woman committed to family, friends, church and community.

Mum was raised on a farm in Northern Alberta. At 18, she joined the WRNS and served in Guelph, Halifax and Ottawa. In 1946 she moved to Nanaimo with her Mum and brothers and met and married Jack. By 1953 she had three small daughters and took on full time parenting, the local PTA and the Haliburton Street United Church Sunday School and UCW with enthusiasm. When the girls were grown, she returned to school and completed a diploma in Early Childhood Education while working at Nanaimo Children’s Daycare Centre, the first daycare in the City. After retirement, Mum joined the South End Community Association and conducted Heritage Walks in the neighbourhood.

Please join daughters Margaret (David), Diana (Murdoch) and Joan (Barry); Grandsons Kevin (Stephanie), Jordan (TC), Geoff (Mariah) and Graeme; and Great Grandchildren Madeline, David, Olivia, Morgan and Steele in a service at St. Andrew’s United Church, Wesley Street, Nanaimo on Wednesday October 29, 2014, at 1:00 in the afternoon, followed by tea in the church hall.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated, caring and compassionate staff at Nanaimo Travellers Lodge, as well as Mum’s friend Linda for her fun-filled visits. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society in Mum’s memory.
