Don Smith

August 23, 1933 - January 17, 2024

In Loving Memory ~

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved father: Donald Raymond Smith. He was born in Nanaimo on Aug. 23, 1933 & quietly passed away Jan 17, 2024 at 90 yrs. old.

He was the son of Chester Raymond Smith & Jean Gilcrest Smith. He was the oldest of 3 children & is survived by his sister: Leona Medley (Smith) brother Barry Smith & all their children & grandchildren.

Don was married to Marion Smith (Rollingson) for 52 years, and together they had 5 children: Goldie Smith, Wade Smith, Brenda Stupich (Smith), Casey Mitchell (Smith) & Curtis Smith (Bird). He also has 12 grandchildren & 15 great grandchildren.

Don lived most of his life in Nanaimo but traveled the world on holidays. He worked on the family farm & he & his brother became butchers/owners of Smith's meat market on Victoria Cres. He became a Realtor & owned a few businesses & was also the owner & creator of Malaspina lodge. He was an avid athlete & sports fan his whole life.

Don played for the Nanaimo Clippers, The Chemaius Blues & ended his hockey career with the Bastion Oldtimers. He was in the top ranks of Tennis & also played golf avidly. He loved & supported his family our whole life & will be missed more than we can express ..And so Dad; "drive safe" wherever you are!!!

His celebration of life will be @ The Cottonwood Golf Course 1975 Haslam Rd. April 5, 2024 from 2-5.

His ashes will be spread in "Smithville" on his birthday Aug. 23, 2024 @ 1 pm.
