Bernie Diakow passed away peacefully in his 83rd year, the morning of August 7, 2013. Born in Willows, Saskatchewan, he grew up often helping out on the family farm and working on the railroad. Bernie left for Prince George in 1949 and worked in the logging industry. In 1954 Bernie moved to Port Alberni and continued with the logging industry driving a logging truck for 34 more years. One of the logging trucks Bernie drove in the later years was the “Challenger” built by a fine gentleman in Port Alberni.

Being active all his life, Bernie was very involved with the Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Assn. and played hockey in Port Alberni, Parksville, and many other places and even made a trip to Hawaii to play.

Bernie was predeceased by his first wife, Norma and brothers, John and Bill. He is survived by his sons, Douglas, Michael (Linda); grandchildren: Sarah Jean, Jason and Chiane; his wife of 32 years, Bernice, and siblings, Lil, Anne and Ed.

Arrangements entrusted to Sands Funeral Chapel and Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.

A private family service has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bernie, may be made to the Oceanside Hospice Society.
