Barbara Lynne Boyd (nee Ballard)

Barbara Boyd (1947 - 2020) passed away on Friday, January 17 in Nanaimo surrounded by family. She is survived by her loving husband Bill Boyd (with whom she celebrated her 50th Anniversary this past August), daughter Karen Irving (Todd), son John Boyd (Michelle), sister Patricia Nelson, sister-in-law Patricia Howard (Dan), grandchildren Kate and Tyler Irving, and nieces Carolynn Howard (Cole Lamothe) and Christina Howard. She was predeceased by her parents Grace and Ray Ballard, in-laws June and Frank Boyd, and nephew Troy Black.
Barbara was born in Vancouver, BC, and raised in Calgary, Alberta, where she attended William Aberhart High School and was an active member of the Calgary Winter Club. She attended the University of Victoria where she graduated with distinction. She retired in 2012 from the Pacific Biological Station after many years of service. Throughout her life, she was active with Girl Guides, Job's Daughters, and several local charities.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team at NRGH for the loving care they provided her and her family. And a very special thanks for Dr. Sheila Findlay and everyone at the NRGH Renal Care Unit for their tremendous support over the past several years.
A celebration of life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel (1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC) on Monday, January 27 at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the NRGH Renal Care Unit via the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation (nanaimohospitalfoundation.com).
