August 11, 1939 - February 22, 2023
In loving memory ~
With great sadness the family of Don share of his passing in the early hours of February 22, 2023. Don leaves behind his loving wife of 56 . years, Patricia, daughter Tanya (Gary), son Darryl (Erika), four grandchildren, Amanda, David, Mark and Riley, sister Susan (Terry), brother Robert, sisters-in-law Shirley (Tom), Holly (Alan) Anne Marie (Graham) and many nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents Stan and Gladys, sister Dorothy, and brother Gerald.
Don was born in Duncan, B.C. and as a child moved frequently around Vancouver Island with his father being in the logging business. In 1962 he met his wife Patricia while working at a wholesale plumbing firm in Victoria. They were married on July 30, 1966. Don achieved his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1970 at the University of Victoria. He was then hired by the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans spending 33 years in his career as a Marine Biologist working mostly with salmon. His hobbies included beekeeping, fishing, canoeing, camping, cross country skiing, hiking, and travelling, visiting many countries. He enjoyed spending family time at the family in-law cabin at Wall Beach and some winter weeks in Maui. One of Don's personal achievements was building his own three bedroom home for his young family in the 1980's while spending a few short years in Prince Rupert.
Don was a patient and methodical teacher to his family, relatives, friends and co-workers. He was known by many as a loyal, ethical man, walking and talking thoughtfully and quietly, but leaving a profound impression on those who knew him. He left this world a better place for him being in it and will be sorely missed.
A special thank you to Don's Care Givers with particular mention to Brian at the Seniors Wellness Centre and to George from Home Support Services.
