There will be a Public Hearing on Thursday, March 16th, 2023, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Shaw Auditorium at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre at 80 Commercial Street, Nanaimo, BC to consider an amendment to the “City of Nanaimo Zoning Bylaw 2011 No. 4500”. All persons who believe their interest in the property is affected by the proposed amendment bylaw will be given the opportunity to be heard. Members of the public can participate through written submissions, in-person, or electronically by viewing the meeting live-streamed online with the opportunity to call-in to speak to an agenda item. The application and call-in number will be displayed on the live-stream when the amendment bylaw is being considered. A copy of the bylaw and related information may be inspected from March 2nd to 16th, 2023, from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday (excluding statutory holidays), at the City of Nanaimo, Development Services Department, Service and Resource Centre, located at 411 Dunsmuir Street.

The purpose of this bylaw is to rezone the subject property from Steep Slope Residential (R10) to Low Density Residential (R6) with site-specific provisions for height (9.0m-12.5m) and density (0.81 FAR), to facilitate a multi-family residential development.

Following the close of a Public Hearing, no further submissions or comments from the public can be accepted by members of City Council. This is necessary to ensure a fair Public Hearing process and provide a reasonable opportunity for people to respond.

This Notice is published in accordance with Section 466 of the Local Government Act. Notice given by the Corporate Officer.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING

March 16th, 2023 following the Public Hearing at 7:00 p.m.

City of Nanaimo has received notice of an application to the Provincial Liquor & Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) for a liquor primary licence to allow liquor to be served at a neighbourhood pub with a maximum capacity of 84 persons.

The proposed hours of service are 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. for the indoor pub space and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. for the outdoor patio area, seven days a week. If approved, the liquor primary licence would permit liquor to be served at Sip Pub.

As part of the review process, the City is responsible to gather the views of local residents and business operators and forward this information, along with recommendations, to the LCRB.

The application will be presented to Council immediately following the close of the City of Nanaimo Public Hearing which will be held on Thursday, March 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the Shaw Auditorium, Vancouver Island Conference Centre, 80 Commercial Street. All are welcome to attend the Council meeting and speak to this application. A report including all comments received is scheduled to return to Nanaimo City Council on Monday, April 17th, 2023 for Council consideration.
