Application for a Permit Under The Provisions of the Environmental Management Act
Coastland Wood Industries Ltd. (751 Haliburton Street, Nanaimo BC, V9R 4W8) intends to submit this application to the Director to authorize the discharge of effluent from water treatment devices and a water treatment system. The source(s) of discharge is surface water runoff treated by the Coastland Wood Industries Ltd. dryland log sorting and veneer manufacturing facility.
The Coastland Wood Industries Ltd. dryland log sorting and veneer manufacturing facility and the effluent discharge are located at 942 Haliburton Street, Nanaimo, B.C., V9R 6N4.
The maximum rate of effluent discharged from this facility will be determined through the permitting process to meet the Environmental Management Act requirements. The operating period for water treatment systems on this facility is 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Surface water runoff from the facility is treated with either oil-water separators (municipal runoff ) or a water quality treatment system (facility runoff ), and the characteristics of the effluent discharge are well within the applicable water quality guidelines.
Any person who may be adversely affected by the proposed discharge of waste and wishes to provide relevant information may, within 30 days after the last date of posting, publishing, service or display, send written comments to the applicant, with a copy to the Regional Director, Environmental Protection at 2080-A Labieux Road, Nanaimo, B.C., V9T 6J9. The identity of any respondents and the contents of anything submitted in relation to this application will become part of the public record.
