The District of Lantzville is now accepting applications for five (5) more volunteer members at-large to serve on its new Accessibility Advisory Statutory Committee for a term expiring December 31, 2024. Meetings will be held a minimum of three (3) times per year in the Council Chamber on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm, or at an alternate start time by unanimous consent of the Committee. Additional meetings may be held, also by unanimous consent.
The purpose of the Accessibility Advisory Statutory Committee is to support accessibility planning in Lantzville by identifying barriers and advising on how to remove and prevent barriers faced by individuals with disabilities who interact with the District. Members will review and make recommendations to support the development of an Accessibility Plan that considers how the principles of inclusion, adaptability, diversity, collaboration, self-determination and universal design can be implemented in Lantzville.
The Accessibility Advisory Statutory Committee will consist of up to seven (7) voting members appointed by Council and non-voting staff members appointed by the CAO. Criteria for members-at-large includes:
- Lantzville residents;
- at least half of the members should be persons with disabilities, or individuals who support, or are from organizations that support, persons with disabilities;
- at least one Indigenous person;
- members that reflect the diversity of persons in British Columbia; and
- no conflict of interest with Council or the Committee and, if appointed, must advise the Chair if a potential conflict arises.
