A woman was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Terminal Avenue on Pearson Bridge on Wednesday morning.

The 21-year-old woman was hit around 6 a.m. Wednesday when a car passed through the intersection of Stewart and Terminal avenues and was headed onto the bridge when the collision occurred, said Const. Derek Balderston, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, in a press release.

“The vehicle sustained front-end damage and was towed from the scene. The driver remained at the scene and is co-operating with investigators. A number of witnesses to the collision were interviewed by responding officers. The investigation is continuing,” Balderston said.

He said pedestrians should be cautious when crossing streets and use designated crosswalks and follow pedestrian control signs.
