A female cross orbweaver (araneus diadematus) spider is the picture of patience as she hangs out in a holly tree in Bowen Park, waiting for a fly to hit her web Wednesday.
According to Spiders.us, cross orbweavers are named for the the pattern formed by white dots on their backs. They’re originally from Europe, are common in B.C. and somewhat irksome to hikers and mountain bikers who stumble, often face first, through webs they stretch across paths and trails during late summer and early fall.
