A violent offender was arrested in Nanaimo on the weekend, one day after he got out of a Lower Mainland prison and the same day a public warning was issued about his presence here.

Randolf Frank Lanferman, 43, was arrested Saturday, just one day after he was released from Matsqui Institution.

Lanferman was released Friday after serving a sentence of three years and four months for breaking and entering. It was his third sentence in a federal corrections facility.

Shortly before his arrest, Nanaimo RCMP serious crimes unit released a public safety notification that Lanferman was living in Nanaimo.

The notification warned that Lanferman’s criminal record included robbery and that he had a history of stalking and sexual assault, which involved breaking into his victims’ residences.

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said police were keeping a close watch on Lanferman. He was staying at the Salvation Army New Hope Centre and was arrested after he checked out of the facility and broke his 9 p.m. curfew, which was one of the conditions of his release.

“He walked several kilometres and got as far as the Duke Point ferry,” O’Brien said. “Shortly after nine o’clock, once he breached his curfew, we arrested him.”

Lanferman was scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Monday.
