Traffic on Nanaimo's main arterial routes was snarled for about three hours as emergency crews dealt with a two-vehicle collision that sent two men to hospital Wednesday.
The crash happened at Terminal Avenue and Comox Road, one of Nanaimo's busiest intersections where two of the city's main arterial routes cross, at about 5:30 a.m.
RCMP collision analysts investigated the scene before the vehicles were towed away shortly before 9 a.m.
According to Nanaimo RCMP, investigators determined a full-size sedan, occupied by two men, proceeded through a red light at the intersection and was struck broadside by an SUV, which was northbound on Terminal Avenue.
The SUV was driven by a woman who had her three-month-old infant with her. The mother and baby were not injured, but both men in the sedan received injuries and were taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Both men have been treated and are expected to be released today (Nov. 2).
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
