A serious crash Wednesday closed part of the Nanaimo Parkway for several hours as emergency crews dealt with the wreckage and RCMP collision analysts investigated the scene.
The collision occurred between the south Jingle Pot Road intersection and the East Wellington Road overpass at about 1:15 p.m.
Police reported Thursday that a southbound car in the slow lane changed lanes and struck a second car in the fast lane, causing that vehicle to lose control. The out-of-control Volkswagen Jetta went into a spin and into the median where it rolled and landed on its roof in the northbound lanes.
The crash left three people injured. The driver of the Volkswagen was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver with possible spinal injuries.
Police did not have details on injuries suffered by the driver and passenger of the second vehicle.
Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for more than three hours and were reopened shortly before 5 p.m.
The Nanaimo RCMP along with Municipal and Provincial Traffic units are engaged in the investigation.
