UPDATE: Police arrest three in violent break and enter

Two men from Nanaimo, one from Vancouver remain in police custody.

Three men are in police custody after allegedly participating in an early morning home invasion on Uplands Drive Saturday.

Nanaimo RCMP say three males went to an apartment complex in the 4700 block of Uplands Drive at around 6:50 a.m. One of the men forced his way into an apartment through a window and once inside, repeatedly punched a 30-year-old female from Nanaimo in the face. She later had surgery for a broken jaw.

As the three suspects fled, a 60-year-old caretaker attempted to intervene and was kicked in the face. He, too, received medical attention.

During the break-in, a 911 call was placed and RCMP responded. A police dog and handler tracked down one suspect, who was arrested. Tips from witnesses led to the arrests of the other two suspects.

Two of the men arrested are in their early 20s and are from Nanaimo, according to police. The third male is also in his 20s and resides in Vancouver.

Nanaimo RCMP Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong said the woman was not the intended victim of the home invasion; police believe the suspects went to the wrong address.

Hudson Klassen, 20, and Cuong Luu, 22, of Nanaimo and Long Tran, 20, of Vancouver, are charged with break and enter and having their faces masked.
