Toxic drug advisory issued in Nanaimo

Island Health warns of increase in drug overdoses in the area

Health officials are warning drug users in Nanaimo about increased risk from injection and inhalation.

Island Health has issued a drug poisoning advisory for Nanaimo and in a social media post, stated that overdoses are increasing in the area.

Drug users are also encouraged to visit the overdose prevention service located at 250 Albert St., open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and to carry naloxone.

If someone suffers an overdose, the health authority advises calling 911, staying with the victim, administering naloxone and performing CPR.
