New funding will help launch Nanaimo swim events.
The Nanaimo Riptides Swim Team and VI Endurance are the latest organizations to win Tourism Development Funds from Tourism Nanaimo. Dollars are meant to help grow tourism and increase overnight stays.
The swim team will get $3,280 for starting block upgrades needed to attract first class competitions, while VI Endurance will receive $1,250 for its Nanaimo Ocean Swim. The money will go to boat escorts and a professional start/finish area for the inaugural Newcastle Island-based marathon.
