Telus will bolster its PureFibre network in Nanaimo with a multi-million dollar infusion, the company announced.
In a press release, Telus said it is investing $11.7 million for network infrastructure and operations, offering customers better technology, ability to connect with others and access to resources and information.
Officials from the City of Nanaimo were pleased with the announcement.
“Reliable high-speed internet connects Nanaimo to the world and is absolutely essential for our economic development,” Mayor Leonard Krog said in the press release. “This investment is so appreciated.”
The money is part of $18.5 billion Telus will invest in B.C. through 2027, the press release noted. According to Darren Entwistle, Telus president and CEO, the company’s “globally recognized networks are the backbone of [the] digital economy….”
“This investment will help ensure that British Columbians can stay connected to what matters most, including healthcare, safe and healthy food, online education, friends and family, and the flexibility to work remotely; all with the accompanying environmental benefits,” Entwistle said in the press release.
The PureFibre network was recognized in April as the top broadband network in the province by independent analytics company Opensignal.
