Suspect who escaped police custody on Christmas Eve turns himself in

NANAIMO – Alex Trinkwon, missing since Dec. 24, turned himself into authorities this week.

Alex Trinkwon is back in custody after escaping and evading police over the holidays.

Trinkwon, 25, fled police custody Dec. 24 while being interviewed at the Nanaimo RCMP detachment and led police on a foot chase across town to the Buttertubs Marsh area where a police dog lost his trail.

Trinkwon showed up at the Nanaimo Court House Wednesday morning and told a court registry employee there were outstanding warrants for his arrest. After verifying the information, a sheriff escorted Trinkwon to the court house holding cells.

Trinkwon appeared in Nanaimo provincial court Wednesday afternoon to face charges of possession of stolen property, possessing break and enter tools, breaking and entering and escaping lawful custody.
