Police hope the public can help identify a man who allegedly threatened a bystander with a dirty needle while robbing the Wendy's restaurant at Port Place Shopping Centre.

Nanaimo RCMP is asking the public to help identify a man who allegedly robbed the Wendy’s restaurant in Port Place shopping centre.

The robbery happened Thursday at about 6:15 p.m.

According to police, when a bystander tried to intervene, the suspect said he would stab him with a dirty needle.

The suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the till and fled. He was last seen running toward the bus stop on Esplanade.

The suspect is described as South Asian, in his early 20s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11, with short, dark hair and  wearing a dark blue jacket with a red collar, black pants and black shoes.
