Snuneymuxw, city appoint dam talks facilitator

NANAIMO – City of Nanaimo and Snuneymuxw First Nation announce appointment of facilitator to help with Colliery Dams talks.

The City of Nanaimo and Snuneymuxw First Nation have appointed Katherine Gordon as a facilitator to help with the 30-day consultation period over removal of the dams in Colliery Dam Park.

Gordon has worked on previous issues for the city and Snuneymuxw First Nation and has a wide-range of knowledge on local matters.

Gordon will be tasked with gathering relevant information, listening to ideas and concerns, and working toward a collaborative outcome over the Colliery Dams issue.

Members of the public wishing to participate in, or seek information about, the 30-day consultation period are invited to submit ideas on options and supporting information to collieryfacilitator@shaw.ca where they will be received by Gordon.

A public meeting is tentatively scheduled for July 25. Further details will be released soon, according to a City of Nanaimo press release.
