Seniors home in Nanaimo holds its own ‘Olympics’

Residents at a seniors community in Nanaimo were especially active this week, with ‘Olympic’ medals at stake.

Lakeside Gardens Seniors Community held the Lakeside Olympics from Tuesday to Friday, Feb. 22-25. They started with an opening ceremony circuit of the building that included cheering and singing.

The events included balloon volleyball, shuffleboard, egg racing and discus throw, and the activities concluded with a closing medal ceremony on Friday.

Jill House, activity coordinator at Lakeside Gardens, said in an e-mail that resident were eager to play the games and participated with “spirit and smiles.”
