Regional District of Nanaimo ratifies contract with unionized employees

NANAIMO – Deal includes eight-per cent wage hike over four years.

The Regional District of Nanaimo board of directors and CUPE Local 401 have ratified a deal that will see labour peace until the end of 2017.

The new deal includes eight-per cent in wage improvements over the next four years. A pair of one per cent wage hikes are retroactive to Jan. 1 and July 1, 2014. A two-per cent wage hike kicked in this past Jan. 1 and two-per cent increases are also set for every Jan. 1 until 2017 inclusive.

Improvements to extended health and dental benefits are also included, according to a regional district press release.

The regional district said the wage package is similar to others reached by local governments on Vancouver Island over the last six months.
