B.C.’s lastest pandemic public health orders have resulted in the cancellation of New Year’s Eve events and closure of some establishments, and so buses won’t run later that night as had been originally planned.

The Regional District of Nanaimo is cancelling the extended service portion of its New Year’s Eve transit service.

Transit service on Dec. 31 will now end at 12:30 a.m. Free transit will continue to be provided from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. that evening. Other holiday service hours are not impacted and remain as follows:

• Dec. 20-24: reduced weekday service (no ‘S’ trips; same as summer schedule)

• Dec. 25: Sunday-level service

• Dec. 26: Saturday-level service

• Dec. 31: reduced weekday service (no ‘S’ trips; same as summer schedule) free evening service from 8 p.m.-12:30 a.m.

• Jan. 1-2: Sunday-level service

• Jan. 3: return to regular service
