The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board has announced its major award winners for 2021.

Janice Stromar, of Royal LePage Nanaimo Realty, was named Realtor of the Year and Jason Simard of eXp Realty in Nanaimo has received the Realtors Care Award.

Stromar has been a real estate agent for 18 years. She joined the VIREB board of directors in 2014 and served as president in 2017. She is a past-president of the Lantzville Rotary Club, has worked with the Nanaimo 7-10 Club, Habitat for Humanity and the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. She has sat on the City of Nanaimo affordable housing steering committee and on the board of directors for the Nanaimo Women’s Business Network and the Nanaimo Executives Association. Stromar joined the B.C. Real Estate Association board of directors in 2019, became chair-elect in 2021 and will assume the role of BCREA chair.

Founder of Sims Real Estate Group, Jason Simard is an entrepreneur, leader, mentor, coach, and volunteer, noted a press release from VIREB.

According to the release, whether Simard is teaching resumé building to young people at Nanaimo Youth Services Association, launching the Sims Foundation – his own non-profit organization that helps local families at Christmas – or sponsoring the athletic program at John Barsby Secondary School, he is passionate about giving back and helping others.

Both awards were presented at VIREB’s annual general meeting March 11.
