A prisoner being interviewed at Nanaimo RCMP detachment managed to flee custody Tuesday.

Alexander Ray Trinkwon, 25, triggered a manhunt when he fled at about 3:30 p.m.

Trinkwon was scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Wednesday to face charges for possession of stolen property, breaking and entering and possession of break-in tools. Police are now also recommending that a charge for escaping lawful custody be included in the list.

A police dog tracked Trinkwon's flight to the Bowen Road and Buttertubs Marsh area where the dog lost the track.

Trinkwon was last seen wearing blue jeans, t-shirt and socks, but no shoes.
